Stop police brutality against human rights activists and opposition in Zimbabwe
Why this petition matters
Zimbabwe, as we know, is going through a massive human rights issue, where many are not able to express freedom of speech. People are out protesting/marching for their rights; health care, food and jobs. Unfortunately as of right now, around 7 people have been killed due to police brutality and as we go by our days, people are being killed on the streets. The government accuses Western embassies of sponsoring the protests in attempt to topple President Emmerson Mnangagwa & his administration. In recent weeks the organizer of the protest, Jacob Ngarivhume, was arrested and charged with inciting public violence, a freelance journalist was given similar charges and at least 14 activists were being pursued for questioning by the Police. The opposition & human rights NGOs have said they are witnessing abuses such as arrests, detentions, beatings & stalking of activists and ordinary people accused of violating lockdown rules. Police and government spokespeople have dismissed the allegations, even as a prominent journalist and a politician behind the protests have spent close to two weeks in detention.
The world needs to help and support Zimbabwe during this difficult time, this dictatorship has to end.
