Justice against the fundamentalist force

In each and every month since February, a certain youth has been hacked with machete in streets. The things they had in common is that, they were free-thinkers and used to express their concern, grief, disgust, anguish and despair on online media like blogs and facebook, some for decades, and others for years. A list has prepared by a fundamentalist faction and handed over to the govt. to take action in 2013. Since then, or some months before, the killing spree initiated with Ahmed Rajib Haider that eventually split the Shahbag Movement terming it as a movement directed by infidels. But, this heinous murder of Dr. Avijit Roy in 26th February gave rise to a series of ostentatiously non-ending murders by machete which the govt failed to solve and consequently the others as well.
In this context, we vehemently demand all the cold-blooded murders be brought under justice, murderers be arrested and the whole system be expedited as soon as possible so the justice be not delayed and eventually, denied. Moreover, we unequivocally call to safeguard the remaining online activists and rationalist free-thinkers so that no such atrocious acts might be committed furthermore in the name of religion.
For democratic rights and freedom to operate in a society freedom of expression is an integral and important part to be upheld by all civilized nations. In its very first session in 1946, before the inception of any human rights declarations, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 59(I) declaring, "Freedom of information is a fundamental human right and ... the touchstone of all the freedoms to which the United Nations is consecrated." Article 39 of the Constitution of Bangladesh has ensured “the right of every citizen to freedom of speech and expression; and freedom of press”. Articles 36, 37 and 38 have also guaranteed the right.
In the name of religion or political regulation, no one can bar this indelible right, not even the state. But, now we see blood-stained bodies are discovered in alleys, some in broad daylight as well, all done to retaliate the 'attack' or 'humiliation' on religion and religious personalities. These brutal assassinations have subdued several free-thinkers to self-censorship, compelled some others to emigrate and the apparent reluctant condition of the law-enforcing agencies and the statesmen alike is worsening the scenario.
In context of this frustrating and suffocating situation prevailing in Bangladesh, we urge all the conscientious humans to raise their voices and insist to the government of Bangladesh to bring all the perpetrators under the laws of the country in no time to make sure that nobody in future muster the courage to hack someone because of the opinion s/he holds or preaches. This assault on freedom of expression is not only conflicting with the basic human rights and constitution, but also will block the pavement of further development in the realms of science, philosophy and civilization in total.
Help us to uphold humanity and justice against the fundamentalist force as the failure may give rise to failed state that will not be detrimental to this little country only, but also for the whole world.
