The traffic condition in Hyderabad is a rapidly increasing aspect due to the population growth and migration rate. The rapid increase in these both is a result of the increase in urbanization in Hyderabad. Hyderabad is the hub of the IT sector, business sector, shopping malls, education institutions, etc. Hyderabad has a population of approximately 70 lakh. With a total area spread over 625 sq. km and with a road length of 9,250 km, the city has over 50 lakh vehicles out of which two-wheelers account for more than 70% of the volume. Moreover, nearly a thousand vehicles get added every day to the existing volume in the form of registrations. Hyderabad should implement the traffic calming measure from 1985. The measure is threefold; engineering, education, and enforcement. The engineers will have to provide the physical change needed in roads, education will spread awareness of the issue and the government should enforce more laws and rules, based on speed limits, and the timings for when automobiles should be out on the road. This can be done if Hyderabad was more involved in providing sustainable options by starting with creating bicycle lanes and public transport lanes.
