Respected Dear Officials,

Sanatan Dharma is the only culture where there is a concept of a personal God. And since God is a person, it is very natural to go and meet Him. God expands Himself according to the Vedic literatures in many aspects and one of them is ‘Archa-Vigraha’. It is not a concocted form of the Lord conceived by some mundane mind. It is an authoritative form described in the Vedic scriptures.

Darshan: We normally understand that a devotee goes and beholds the form of the Lord. However, it is the opposite way. Darshan means that the Lord glances over His devotees, His children.

Due to the invasion of the Moguls, many a times devotees had to hide the Lord fearing breaking and desecration by them. Athi-Varada Swamy is also similar case, where the Deity of Lord Vishnu was hidden in the sacred Pushkarini.

It is a request by all the devotees of Athi Varadarajan around the world to stop immersing Him again in Pushkarini thus giving up the practice of opening the Darshan only one in 40 years. Right now there is no fear of Mughal invasion. This Deity was the presiding Deity for several thousands of years before the Mughals even where conceived in thought. So why should a Deity Who was worshipped by Lord Brahma, be now bereft of worship because some Mughals invaded the area in the 16th century?

Thus, this is a humble appeal by we all to kindly keep the Lord in the main temple for worship for following reasons:

1. The experience of people visiting Kanchipuram to see Athi Varadarajan is not less than a fearful one. Since the darshan is open only every 40 years, millions of people a week throng the place and Kanchipuram town is not prepared to deal with this kind of crowd.

2. There is high level of mismanagement and that too sometimes intentional. The police cannot handle the crowd and thieves and rouges have a merry time. The RS.500 online darshan ticket cannot be booked by devotees since all of them are booked by agents who sell them in black for a high amount.

3. There are not enough facilities in the town to deal with this kind of crowd.

4. Why should the Lord be kept in separation from his devotees for 40 years?

For this and so many other reasons, we humbly request to not immerse Lord Athi Varadarajan again and let the festival of worship continue forever.

Best regards,

Insignificant devotees of Lord Athi-Varadarajan
