Meriam is free!

Jul 24, 2014 — Today pictures have been released of Meriam and her family arriving safely in Italy. The news comes after weeks of limbo. Meriam who was sentenced to death for her refusal to renounce her Christian faith had been released from prison in Sudan but was detained before she left the country.

Now we can finally say, Meriam is free.

Over a million people from around the world -- including you! -- signed my petition on and joined the chorus of international voices demanding freedom and justice for Meriam.

Over the past few months world leaders like UK Prime Minister David Cameron and US Secretary of State John Kerry have spoken out against Meriam’s imprisonment, and media coverage of her story has raised an important conversation about religious freedom and women’s rights around the world.

Now, thanks to our voices, a young mother and her children have been freed from prison and we have stood together to protect the right to religious freedom.

This campaign sends an important message that we will not stand by and let injustice happen. We’ve proven that coming together online can make a real difference toward the goal of human rights for everyone.
