Why this petition matters

Started by Skylar Yu

As of March 12, 2020, the schools of Saskatchewan, Canada, will no longer be supporting extra curricular activities involving teacher volunteers. Activities such as Drama, Music, Sports teams and clubs, Track and Field events, Field trips, and planning for the graduation ceremonies of Grade 8 and Grade 12 students will be canceled until this sanction ends.

Teachers are not allowed to participate in these services, for the consequences are that their pay will be lowered, which is unfair for these important members of our communities.

Meanwhile, the STF states that by freeing up teachers time by taking away our activities, they can focus more on the education of their students. If the Saskatchewan Government could grant teachers their wish of having fewer students per classroom, they would not have to put in so much extra work and could really put the proper care into each student’s academic career.

This temporary solution may take longer than imagined. If this isn't resolved before June, Grade 12 and Grade 8 students may never have a formal graduation, or experience the joys of participating in activities as mentioned earlier one last time before leaving high school, or transitioning from elementary/middle school to high school.

Signing this petition will hopefully convince the Saskatchewan Government to come up with a decision that caters to the needs of both teachers and students across our province, and prevent the need for our teachers to go on strike.

Please consider signing to help us student participate once again in the extra curricular activities that we love and need, and reduce the amount of students within each classroom to help teachers accomplish the tasks they need done to its fullest extent.
