Petition to all levels of Government in Canada:

Recent commercial property rent increases in Mississauga of 200% to 300% are unjustified, unsustainable and putting the small businesses at the brink of bankruptcies and liquidations. These rent increases by reality-agnostic landlords and corporations are proving to the last straw on the back of the camel.

Small businesses are the backbone of Canadian economy, and will result in mass closure of businesses resulting in pandemic level of job losses.

Small businesses support anywhere from 5-10 families by employing and creating Jobs.

Please mind the following facts about the small business contributions to Canadian economy:

1. Small Businesses are the Largest Private Sector Employers.

2. Most private employers in Canada are actually small businesses. This is because most Canadian businesses are small businesses.

3. A total of 99.8% of all Canadian businesses are small- to medium-sized firms with less than 500 employees. (Small businesses are firms with less than 100 paid employees and medium-sized businesses are categorized as firms with 100 to 499 paid employees.)

4. 9 out of 10 Canadians in the private sector work for a small- to medium-sized business.

5. Micro-enterprises (firms with 1 to 4 employees) represent 53.8% of all private employers.

6. Small businesses employ 69.7% of the total private labor force or approximately 8.3 million people.

7. From 2003 to 2017, 85.3% of all new jobs (1.2 million jobs) were created by small- to medium-sized businesses.

8. Small- to medium-sized businesses contribute to approximately 38.4% of Canada's gross domestic product (GDP).

We plead with all levels of Canadian Governments (Federal, Provincial, Municipal) to assess the contributions of small businesses and enforce an urgent relief, as well as assess the vaccum the lack of small business will create in Canadian economy.
