Jake McGough started this petition to Government of Ontario and

My name is Jake McGough and I am Grade 11  student living in Ontario, Canada. As a student I find the amount of homework and projects assigned during these unsafe and unsteady times is absurd. We students have greater things to worry about then when our English essay on Shakespeare is due, or what the mathematic trend of bird population is. Now with the new schedule being assigned by the government they are putting on longer hours for virtual class that even my personal teachers have said are not needed and make absolutely no sense having. Not only is our mental health going to go into critical states but we need to care for our family’s. School is highly important don’t get me wrong, but  it will never be greater than human life and happiness. Our education system is majorly flawed and keeps renewing itself on these flaws. They give longer online lessons on one subject forcing students to resent and mitigate all work around it, as well as giving unreasonable assignment work in the new little amount of time slotted based on the new quadmester system. We want a way to lower the amount of time we dread through online class to help build and reinforce our learning skills at a higher quality rather than the large quantity trying to be shoved down our throats. We also want assignments and marks to be held more considerable due to the terrible COVID related effects caused on each family. No one is able to perfectly do like before this pandemic and rather our education system should guide students towards stabler learning ways and more forgiving on the marks they receive. This will help students want to learn instead of feeling forced as well as give them the confidence to be ready for what the future is to be. We are the next ones to run the world and we should be receiving hope not fear. A simple signature/ share goes a huge way in showing our educational governments of Canada that we the students are ready to take a stand for ourself and not be detained to the old fashioned, unrealistic ideal of how to have the best succeed and the worst perish all because of something we can’t control.
