Writing from the other coast, where we’re fighting to get rid of them: DON’T DO IT! Piscine orthoreovirus is real and it’s disastrous.

I'm an earth scientist and part of my career was focused on estuarine research. Estuaries are fragile ecosystems, beginning with their physio-chemical make-up. Building these enormous pens in our estuaries leads to eutrophication and dead zones. This endangers all other life forms in the estuary and is completely unnecessary. The only reason companies want to build these pens is a monetary reason. We don't need them to feed the world's population. This practice must end now.

I am opposed to any open net salmon farms as I have seen some if the effects for myself over a period of 20 years in a site . Still a dead zone !

There is no room in NS’s wTers for this toxic, polluting, irresponsible, green-driven industry. Farm fish - if you must - on land. Period.

We just won a huge battle against Cermaq and now we need to help our friends in Lunenburg prevent an expansion by Cookes. Open pen salmon farming is outdated and proven time and time again to be detrimental to the natural environment. It’s time for a permanent moratorium Of open pen fish farms around Nova Scotia!
