Allow the Mauritians living Abroad to Vote!

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

The Mauritian community is scattered all around the world. There is an estimate of probably 200 000 to 500000 Mauritians abroad, but we believe there are a lot more Mauritian citizens abroad. Many contribute to the Mauritian economy by investing or sending money home. It is fundamentally unfair and against many the principles of a democracy and even the Mauritian principles of justice  to prevent the Mauritian citizens from voting. Recently the government has been encouraging the diaspora to come back Home to invest. We, Mauritians Abroad, will be glad to do so but in return we need to have a right to vote. Few reasons Mauritians Abroad should be allowed to vote:

1. Mauritians overseas also have a different perspective and experience which can actually help the country;

2. Mauritians abroad seem not to be biased based on petty differences; and

3. Many Mauritians abroad are very successful and can actually contribute in the development of the beautiful island.

We call on the People of Mauritius, that is, the government to allow ALL Mauritians to vote including Mauritians abroad. Please amend the law/Mauritius Constitution accordingly to remedy to this unfair situation.
