Network of Early Childhood Development of Lesotho started this petition to Government of Lesotho and

COVID19 caused panic amongst the World, and the government of Lesotho responded by shutting down services including schools, which we highly appreciate and recognize that the government did this to protect the Nation. Though this was done in good spirit it also made visible the poverty gaps in Lesotho and inequality that exists in accessing education.

Those who are privileged enough to attend private schools continued learning through different media platforms, which are accessible to those who could afford purchasing accessories (phones, computers, laptops) as well as purchasing data. The government of Lesotho also had some radio and Television programmes, though pre primary education was not catered for and the programmes were also not well sustained and not every family has a radio nor Television.

On top of the above mentioned challenges towards the effort of continuous learning, children are seen all over the streets engaging in different activities (playing soccer, Khati, Mokou, and many others) this raises concerns that if they are able to participate in such activities freely, should they not go back to school where every child will have the opportunity to access education as the poor are currently not able to access it due to lack of access to different media platforms and lack of data.
