Majority of Road accidents that happen during night time, either in Highways or within City is due to poor visibility. This can be addressed to a great extent by providing good sustainable lighting system. However, this involves huge sum of money considering the length of Highways and roads within city limits. Though government has tried to put reflectors which would help to some extent, due to the poor quality and non sustainable nature, it is not giving desired results. Number of road accidents are increasing year after year. I can suggest a remedy which could go a long way in addressing the problem, that too, without involving huge spending by the Government.
Instead of painting the footpath starting stones/cement blocks and also the Road dividers, with Yellow and Black colour paint, pure white colour of good quality be used. This certainly increases the visibility of dividers and footpath stones. Same is applicable to Speed breakers including the stands of yellow colour that the police are using. In Highways, White colour paint be extensively used to mark curves, humps, narrow bridges, tree trunks in hill section, caution boards etc.
Thus, by just taking a decision to change colour from existing black and yellow to Pure white, we can save lot of accidents happening due to poor visibility.
