Two Italian marines, facing trial in India for allegedly killing two fishermen and recently granted permission by the Supreme Court to go home to vote in general election will not return to India, the Italian government said on Monday (11 March 2013) night.
Massimiliano Lattore and Salvatore Girone, charged with homicide for killing two fishermen off Kerala in February 2012 in an anti-piracy operation were permitted by the Supreme Court to go to Italy for four weeks for voting in last month’s election.
Last time they were allowed to go home for the Christmas holidays after which they returned back to India on the expiry of their leave. But now the Italian Government has said that they will not return.
The two marines were on board the Italian vessel Enrica Lexie, when they had shot dead the two fishermen on February 15, last year.
Italy has clearly backstabbed India and played with the sentiments of the families of fishermen who were killed by the Italian marines. India allowed them to go back to their country to vote and this is how Italy paid back. We demand Italy to return the two Italian Marines back to India. Sign this petition to bring justice to the families of killed Indian fishermen.
