Dayamani Barla is the current iron-lady of India.
A social activist and a journalist who is presently behind the bars in Ranchi, Jharkhand. She became famous after raising the voice against the land-acquisition for the Arcelor-Mittal project in the state. She protested for the land of tribals in Jharkhand. The land acquisition by the govt. in the Jharkhand capital Ranchi has sparked a controversy. The state govt. claims that no land will be acquired from the indigenous people of the state according to certain act but itself violated the rules. Jharkhand High Court issued a contempt of court notice to her as she burnt an effigy of the High Court after it maintained that the step of govt. to acquire land is lawful.
The indigenous people of India are ailing as political-corporate nexus is exploiting them. Land-Water-Forest(Jal-Jameen-Jungle) are the three rights and basic necessities of these people and they are being deprived of it in the name of development.
