Why this petition matters

India, the country with the highest population percentage globally. India is thought to be a country full of cultural diversities and is famous for its rich heritage. But among all sorts of religious, social, and all other sorts of diversities, there's zero diversity on one topic. The LGBTQIA+ community.

After centuries of struggle for recognition of the LGBTQIA+ community, the National Council of Educational Research and Training of India, recently published a training manual to sensitise teachers about LGBTQIA+ children and to make school infrastructure inclusive.

Here's more about it from The Hindu :

"NCERT recently published a training manual to sensitise teachers about LGBTQIA+ children and to make school infrastructure inclusive.

Hindu Right-wing groups were offended and a former RSS missionary, Vinak Joshi from Maharashtra filed a case with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) stating that the manual was a "criminal conspiracy to traumatise school students under the name of gender sensitisation". NCPCR sent a notice to NCERT asking to respond to the complaint in 7 days. NCERT took down the training manual from its website. The training could have potentially made schools across the country safer for LGBTQIA+ children."

Homophobia has always been prevalent in India and is normalised by the Indian citizens widely. People here are assumed to be heterosexual and coming out is almost next to impossible for the LGBTQIA+ community. Why? It's because heterosexuality and cisgender are considered normal here according to the laws of religion and culture, and if anyone dares to go against it, it's considered abnormal, people like that are considered crazy. Crazy to the point where they deserve getting r*ped. Yes, that's right, people here are gang r*ped if they come out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community in order to "fix" their mental illness. Not just rape, all sorts of physical and mental abuses are carried on by the family members and the society over this community whose existence is considered invalid even after it had been legalised way back in 2018. This community has been considered inexistent for too long, and we deserve justice and recognition because we exist, and we are proud of who we are and no one can change us into being "normal-according-to-the-hindu-laws". We are considered criminals, and this community is labelled as mentally unstable by the society. We are considered abnormal , as if it is not right for people to love who they love. Everyone's human , we are the same as you. Yes our preference might vary from someone else's , but that's nature isn't it? We need recognition and people should know that WE EXIST  and it's NOT WRONG to be who we are and WE ARE VALID and that LOVE IS LOVE , gender and sexualities do NOT matter. Sign this petition if you agree with the cause, because we exist, and deserve validation, we are all supposed to be equal.
