Dear all

Medical Education in India needs a fresh focus and sustained efforts to achieve what is due - Reforms.

Positive Intent and Futuristic Vision is crucial for achieving this uphill task. If executed with commitment, this eventually will deliver the desired dividends of Improved quality of Professionals and will have a profound impact on the final product -- Improved Health of our Nation.

We would like to bring to your attention that, as it stands now,  Doctors Returned/Returning from English Speaking Countries following there Post Graduation qualifications and experience in Teaching,  were expected to start their career as Assistant Professors ignoring their previous experience in teaching. This sure is meant to put people off from taking Academics as a Career path .This is being perceived as a hurdle to what the Government of India has originally intended to achieve (Allowing returning Doctors into Medical Academic roles in India through an Ordinance).

For this, we would like to urge the Government of India to back the Board of Governors -MCI to take up this burning issue and help us in early resolution of this, lest the original intent and aim of the ordinance will be lost in translation.

We strongly believe that by DOING what is meant to be done, IT will COUNT where it really matters-- Health of Nationals and Health of Nation.

Finally,  with the recent decision of Board of Governors -MCI, to allow CCT qualifications from United Kingdom to be registered with MCI,  we are absolutely delighted.

We see this as a step in right direction and are confident that this will eventually lead to a pool of doctors, who,  if allowed to work at a level appropriate to their experience and expertise, can increase the pool of Teaching Faculty in India.

We all are pleased to note that the Government of India is committed to its Vision of Improving Quality in Medical Education and BOG-MCI are Resolute to achieve this challenging task, by taking clear decisions including status of CCT from UK, in timely manner.  We THANK YOU as we believe saying IT MATTERS.

Looking forward to contribute positively.

Regards

Dr Murali Krishna Bhagavatula
