For many people, the Yamuna is not just a natural resource, but also one of the holiest rivers in India. She is not just a goddess, but a giver of life and a source of happiness and beauty to many people.

The government is not paying attention to the well being of people, and are ignoring the fact that they are affecting the nature in a bad way.

In the recent years, "The Government had moved the National Green Tribunal against the DDA’s decision to allot 130 acres at Sonia Vihar and 50 acres at Ghonda Gujran to the EDMC for waste management."

Many citizens were shocked at this decision and one cannot elaborate more on how this will seriously pollute the Yamuna river, which affects the lives of many people.

The Yamuna river is the lifeline for not just Delhi, but many other settlements in its course. The river's health affects the ecological health of the region and of its people directly.

Waste from the landfill will pollute the river and cause diseases to transmit through drinking water.

Environmentalist Vimlendu Jha says that "From the Yamuna, the toxins will enter Delhi’s groundwater and water supply, also the fact that the water table is high in these areas and therefore toxic leachate from the landfills is going to pollute the underground aquifers for all times. The water coming to our homes will become dangerous for us to use or consume."

The government should move the landfill to a different area, which is safer and won't affect peoples lives, away from the Yamuna river.

We citizens must take a stand for our own safety, and our planets safety, before its too late.
