The past few days have seen a lot of buzz around the updated Motor Vehicles Act implemented from 1st September, as well as the new traffic rules and hefty challans it now includes which are 5-10 times the old penalty. The new unaffordable fines have caused an uproar among the citizens of India, especially auto drivers, motor owners and above it all the common man.

The conversation around it further intensified when a Honda Activa owner was slapped with a fine of ₹23,000 for multiple violations -- not only is that challan amount massive, but pretty much 50 per cent of a new Honda Activa scooter's cost. It is understandable that the fine should be substantial but definitely not affordable to pay! What is the Government of India trying to implement when an auto driver is fined 52000/- ! I mean he does not even earn that much in 5 years! How is he expected to pay the penalty?

It is indeed an accomplishment for the traffic police who are becoming richer overnight, and yet another setback and failure of the common man who is suffering from both sides- fear of using the roads and hike in prices by auto drivers. I mean how sure are we that all the current penalties are legit and the police is not doing it just to fill their pockets and trouble citizens? How comes that all of a sudden 5000 people in Delhi are penalised in a day??

Lets come together and raise our voice against the unjust hike in penalties by signing this petition and letting the Government know that this is unacceptable.
