Save the Caleta, art deco icon of Gibraltar's East Side!

One of Gibraltar's most familiar and iconic buildings is under threat and now seems destined to be demolished.

The award winning Caleta Hotel has been aquired by the Hilton Hotel Group who intend to demolish the building and no doubt build a new and much larger structure on the site that will dominate the village of Catalan Bay and change the familiar skyline of Gibraltar's East Side forever.

First built in 1964, the Caleta's unique outline and art deco stylings have formed an integral part of both the village of Catalan Bay and the skyline of Gibraltar's quiter side for over 57 years - gracing countless postcards, pieces of art, and holiday photos.

This appeal is directed toward the Government of Gibraltar, the Development and Planning Commission, and the Hilton Hotel group itself - if this site is to be sold and re-used then that is a business decision that we respect, but, there should be no threat to the existing building, which could no doubt shine oncemore with the right care and investment!

Under the shadow of the Rock itself and looking out over Gibraltar's stunning Mediterranean coastline the Caleta Hotel is an irreplaceable piece of local heritage - but once it's gone, it's gone...

To the people of Gibraltar and her many friends and frequent visitors from abroad, we may not be able to control what happens to the old Caleta, but lets make sure our voices are heard and that the old girl doesn't go down without a fight!

Please add your name to the petition, spread the word, share the link, and make some noise!
