GHA abides by General Medical Council good practice; obligation to Government is removed

We must put an end to sacrificing a patient's care for allegiance to the Gibraltar government.
It is wrong and puts all our lives in danger that healthcare staff at the Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) are unable to speak up when a patient's safety, dignity or comfort is compromised.
All our healthcare staff should have the freedom to abide by the General Medical Councils good practice which says that care of patients is the primary concern.
GHA doctors are prevented from escalating issues due to them being bound by the same contractual obligations as civil servants. Civil Servant General Orders state a duty to give undivided allegiance to the Government at all times, and that there should be no discussion of matters of current or potential political controversy.
We petition the government to put an end to this archaic contractual obligation which has throttled the freedom of our healthcare professionals and puts all our lives in danger.
