In the 70s the Government of Canada created 15 weeks of Maternity and Sick Leave benefits for all Canadians. While Maternity Leave benefits now stand at a year, Sick Leave Benefits have remained at 15 weeks. While that is ok for many Canadians, it is not ok for Canadians who suffer from a long term chronic illness. Many of those people have exhausted their employment sick leave and EI Sick Leave and are still struggling financially, often getting help from family and friends. We would like to see the same number of weeks given to people who have a long term chronic illness as were given to maternity leave recipents.
