Stop trying to remove the water from the Brasserie de Rochefort Belgium
Por qué es importante esta petición
The mineral extraction company Lhoist, tries to have the right to defuse the spring water used by the monks of the Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy abbey, this water is used for centuries to make their beer source of income for the abbey. the risk is that this mining company changes the profile of the water or contaminates it.
The first documented evidence of a monastery brewery at the location of the Tridaine spring dates back to 1595. It has been proven that the brewery has been using the water from the spring since at least 1797. Since 1899 the brewery has existed in its current building. The Trappist Abbey of Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy Rochefort as it is today, exists since 1887; before that there were Cistercian monasteries in the same place, first from 1230 the female and from 1464 the male branch of the order.
The Liège court of appeal has ruled against Lhoist. He said that even though the owner of the quarry is also the owner of the spring, he does not have the right to "extract or divert all or part of the water that supplies the abbey." This ends a legal dispute after almost ten years, provided Lhoist does not appeal to the Court of Cassation. The group will try to appeal the sentence, therefore we need signatures to stop this dispute.
