Bellandur lake is one of the biggest lakes in Bangalore and three months back, the lake had caught on fire. The lake is spilling over toxic froth which has formed on the surface of the water due to high pollution levels. If this problem is not fixed, it will go on to become one of the biggest biohazards in India.

This lake is not the only one in India that is affected by the problem. Several lakes in Bangalore and some parts of river Yamuna have been the victims of this calamity.

Why is saving these lakes important?

During a periodic sampling of the lake carried out by Lake Development Authority has discovered excessive amounts of carbon dioxide, lead, phosphorus, e-coli, mercury and many other harmful chemicals. This has also caused distress in people's lives as the toxic froth irritates the skin and eyes.

A few months back Chief Minister Siddharamaiha created a similar petition, laying out every detail about this tribulation. However, no actions have been taken yet. Therefore, I, a student in middle school, want you to take the actions. Sign this petition to urge our government to do something about the situation.

It is no surprise that India is the midst of water crisis, with many of our states, have already run out of water. It is up to us now, to decide the fate of our country.
