Re-Cap The Rates And Fees For Utilities In Alberta

Re-Cap The Rates And Fees For Utilities In Alberta

Did your utility bill go up substantially?
Are you now having to choose between paying your utilities and paying your rent because of the recent increase?
These uncapped rate increases affect everyone. Families, single parents, students, landlords, small business owners and so much more! This increase has come at a time when we are struggling economically and are already having hardships in making ends meet.
Utilities are essential services, meaning that we do not have a choice but to include them into our daily cost of living. We need power, heat and water, for our homes and now we are being forced to choose between putting food on our tables or paying for our utilities.
OUTCOME
Jason Kenney made a statement that he is considering bringing utility rebates back. IF he does, we want to ensure that these rebates are easily accessible to everyone that is affected by these escalating prices.
Though this is an option that will offer us relief, we are hoping that we can simply bring back the rate caps and let the subsidies fill in the gaps.
Having rebates will put a lot of taxpayer dollars into building the program, hiring new people to implement and control the rebates and then of course, the money to offer the rebates themselves. Bringing back the cap, simply reinstates an existing program without the need for other excessive expenditures.
Both have been done before, both can be done again.
HOW
- It all starts with you! We need your signatures to get a platform with the government. Sign this petition, share it AND SHARE HOW THIS IS AFFECTING YOU!
Calls and emails will be made to utility companies, city officials, MLA's, MP's and anyone that we feel (or you suggest) should invoke the necessary changes for all of us Albertan's.
MILESTONES
- First goal:
To reach the Provincial Government, we need 150,000 Alberta-based signatures. That means, if only 4% of Albertans were to sign this, we would easily reach this goal. And we know that more than 4% of you have been affected so we need you to join us in making these changes happen.
Second goal:
We want to bring this to the Federal Government and in order to do that, we need a total of 250,000 Alberta-based signatures.
