In 2015 the Alberta Legislature passed the Skin Cancer Prevention (Artificial Tanning) Act to protect young people from the effects of exposure to artificial ultraviolet light. Studies have shown that tanning bed use dramatically increases the prevalence of skin cancer later in life. Other Canadian provinces have enacted similar bans - why can't we do the same here? All the legislative legwork has already been done - the government just needs to proclaim it into law. The health and safety of youth in Alberta can't wait!
