Kara Kiefuik started this petition to Government of Alberta

Currently in Alberta there are 4 criteria points that a missing person must fall under to qualify for an amber alert to be issued. The problem is that they must fall under ALL FOUR points. A simple thing as not knowing if they were taken or lost means that the police will not issue an amber alert, which reaches a very large amount of people compared to it being on Facebook or their website. Amber alert interrupts Tv, Radio, Cell phones, social media and more. It forces the public to really stop and listen. Whereas on a website or Facebook you can scroll on by without ever seeing it. Especially if it’s in another city. You would never know. I am starting this petition to change this to only having to fall under ONE OF THE FOUR criteria points, and not all. listed below are the current criteria points for an amber alert in Alberta:
Police only activate an alert if all 4 activation criteria have been met:

-a child or an adult with a proven mental or physical disability has been abducted
-the child or adult is in danger of serious harm or death
-there’s enough descriptive information to enable the public to identify the:child or adult
abductor, or
mode of transportation
-there’s a reasonable expectation the abductee could be returned, or the abductor could be apprehended

This needs to change. People need to be found. Children need to go home. Families need closure. I’m calling on the Alberta Government to make this happen.
