I want to make emotional support animals as recognised as assistant dogs in the uk. This would give people with mental difficulties and under mental health services to have additional support whilst seeking the appropriate help. My autism and severe mental illnesses stops me from being able go out on my own. I have severe anxiety that makes me panic around others, I can’t deal with nosies and business. Because of this going out feels impossible. Which feels unfair because sometimes there are places I want to go and things I want to do but can’t do because of my anxiety. If I was able to take my dog to more places I would be more independent and have a better quality of life. He can offer support that no person can give me. Just his presence calms me. I know that this is the case for many. If an Emotional support animal behaves appropriately I believe they should be allowed into shops, restaurants etc by law as it will benefit lots of people suffering from mental illnesses as well as taking pressure off services by providing round the clock support.
