On 31st Oct, Boris Johnson announced national lockdown in England.

It is well known that outdoor transmission of Covid 19 is minimal. Netball clubs have put guidelines and procedures in place to make netball safe, even adapting some of the rules to minimise the risk even further.

This petition is to fight to keep outdoor netball going throughout the new restrictions. The benefits are easy to see

* improved/maintained physical health. Some people can’t or won’t exercise alone meaning a team sport is all the more beneficial

* improved mental health. How many netball players are Mums, furloughed, redundant or working from home, and the only ‘me’ time is playing the sport we love? Happy wife = happy life and happy mum = happy kids!

It’s a bleak time for many at the moment after a year of cancelled birthdays, weddings, holidays to name but a few. So lacing up my trainers and wearing a bib on a freezing cold netball court for a few hours a week gives me and thousands of others across the country something to look forward to. Sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks and getting back on court these past few weeks, after lockdown number 1, has made me realise how much this sport means to me and my fellow netballers.
