Increase Funding for Childhood Cancer

Increase Funding for Childhood Cancer
Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children. 1 in 285 children are diagnosed with cancer and 1 in 5 will not survive. Most medications used to treat this disease are over 30 years old, with some being made in the 1950’s! The purpose of this petition is to get the government to increase funding towards childhood cancer (which only receives LESS THAN 4% of government funding). Lets increase that percentage in hopes for a better future for all children that have to put up with this.
Each day, 43 kids are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. That means that about 15,590 children are diagnosed each year. In fact, the treatments used to save their lives continue to have toxic side affects. Because of the toxicity of treatments, 2 out of every 3 survivors will STILL develop chronic health issues. In addition, nearly 60% of childhood cancer survivors experience severe or life threatening complications in their adulthood. If we increase federal funding, we could potentially have newer treatments that will lower the percentage of complications in their later life.
