If you know any dental hygienists who have tried practicing their skills across state lines, then that means that you have heard of the many obstacles these clinicians face in that process. Most people consider dental hygienists the nurses of the dental world. Both occupation's educational time lines and their level of difficulties faced when enrolled in classes are similar in different aspects, along with their initial admittance processes into their programs. Professions of such similarities in so many aspects should in fact have similar licensing regulations as well. I have never once heard a nurse speak of how hard it is for them to move state to state, and luckily this is the case for this profession with the essence of how the medical world is now-a-days. Nurses have the Nursing Licensing Compact that make it a great deal easier for them to take their skills to a different state. The states included in this compact include Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming. This is well over half of the states in the entire United States of America. Dental health is so very important to a person's overall health. The mouth can show signs of nutritional deficiencies, systemic diseases, cardiovascular problems and diabetes. As a nurse is needed to keep a person healthy, so is a dental hygienist. I know Ohio is not yet currently part of the Nursing Licensing Compact, but I want Ohio to be the first of many states to allow dental hygienists to have such simplicity when wanting to use their educational degree across state lines.
