Why this petition matters
Menstruation is a monthly cycle that occurs to women which includes bleeding for an average time of 3-5 days that happens during their reproductive years. Every single month, girls experience that lovely gift from mother nature. However, approximately 12.8% of girls or women live in poverty and may struggle with access to menstrual products and medications that treat symptoms. There are also reports suggesting people in jail or prison often don’t have access to tampons or pads. Instead, they use newspapers, rags, clothes, tissue, etc.
The provision of free sanitary pads should be legalized to every school. Schools will play an important role in promoting a positive culture around menstrual health and build a supportive environment among the school community. Sanitary items are a necessity, not a luxury, and the free sanitary pads and tampons in public schools initiative will support tens of thousands of girls and young women in schools.
