Our education system is focused on getting the highest grades possible, it doesn't care about how prepared children will be when they have to face real world challenges. It feeds us information, but doesn't teach us life skills. It puts our worth in our grades, and if we don't score high enough, it tells us we're not as important as our peers. The solution it gives us is to "just try harder" but for most kids, "trying harder" won't help. They are already trying their best, but in the system built around grades, it's just not enough.

The school system focuses on one kind of intelligence, but not all children excel at mental subjects such as science and maths. It teaches us that we have no worth beyond our grades and athletic ability, and this needs to change. This way of thinking and the pressure put on children to have good grades is destroying our mental health. It makes us feel like we are worthless and that we have failed if we don't score highly. Not only this, but when a student is genuinely struggling with their work, the teachers put the blame on the child. They tell them that they aren't trying hard enough, and that they don't want to put in the effort required, when a lot of the time, the struggling students are the ones trying the hardest.

The real problem is the way that schools teach us. They give us information and expect us to remember it all, and if we don't, then we didn't try as hard as our classmates. This mindset puts huge amounts of stress on the students, and this stress affects all aspects of our lives, especially our school work. To fix this, we must put the blame where it belongs and start recognising that "trying harder" isn't the solution.
