The Amateur Theatre scene in Ireland is comprised of hundreds of Musical Theatre Societies, Drama Groups, Classes and Festivals made up of thousands upon thousands of voluntary committee members, helpers and performers who are passionate about creating fun and exciting theatre for their local communities.
Productions can take up to 12 months to stage, costing upwards of €30,000 with a significant amount of this money going back into the Professional Arts scene in terms of hiring musicians, technicians, theatres etc. and also locally for bars, restaurants, print shops and more. Another reason these productions are so important.
For many it's a personal much needed outlet, whether as a participant or an audience member, and society will desperately need live theatre both amateur and professional as we rebuild our communities.
Amateur Theatre is a massive piece of the Arts pie in Ireland, and this petition is to show support for this community and for being included in the #savethearts conversation.
