Alex Evers started this petition to Government and

There is a flood of cyclist on the UK roads across the country and it is a fantastic asset to our country in terms of health and the environment; the down side comes with the congestion caused by cyclists and the dangers of people overtaking on B and C roads to both cyclists and drivers.

There are old disused railway lines which link up many towns and villages across the country, if they where converted to cycle roads it would give cyclists better cynic routes and links between towns, villages and cities and also minimise dangers posed to both parties. This would also encourage younger people to cycle as there is a worry amongst many parents of children cycling on major roads; this would bring a myriad of benefits from social, to health and even economically as well as reducing congestion. This has already been put into place such as in countries like Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand and even in New York and would bring benefit to both cyclists and road users; not to mention the jobs it would bring in its development.

I started this petition because…
I was a keen cyclist as a child and used to cycle to my local city which is around twelve miles away. These roads since with the growth of population and cars becoming faster, have become a danger on said roads, especially with road rage which we are all victim too. There is not the infrastructure for an increasing number of cyclists to exist on the roads with traffic without causing delay and in some cases accidents and deaths. I would love to see this number lowered or eradicated and I feel this would be a way to do so.
