As a relative of a prisoner due for release soon, I am concerned that he and other prisoners and indeed prison staff are being placed at risk of infection and death.

Prisoners are being denied some of their basic human rights. They are not allowed to leave their cells, these being two men cells, which greatly increases the risk of infection. They have extremely limited access to information and contact with loved ones. Food is in short supply, with many refusing prison food which is served by other inmates with no PPE.

The situation in prisons is becoming extremely tense with a growing risk of volatility and rioting, and thus the obvious risk to staff and inmates.

Whilst  the release of pregnant female prisoners is a good thing, this clearly infringes on male prisoners right to equality, this infringing discrimination laws.

Whilst no one is saying it would be safe to release all prisoners, there should be plan to release those due for release and those considered low risk.

Some of those released could potentially provide invaluable support in the fight against the current crisis, for example deliveries repairs carpentry etc.

I urge you all to support the release of low risk prisoners before the situation in prisons becomes grave and adds to what is globally an intolerable ordeal for the world.
