British national and at-risk family stranded in Afghanistan
My Story
My parents were killed in a car/road accident in 2005, which was orchestrated by the Taliban. My father worked as a teacher in our community school and proactively took part in raising awareness and opposing the reappearance of the Taliban in our local areas, which ultimately led to my parents’ deaths.
Soon after my parents’ deaths, I was taken in by my foster father/guardian (my maternal uncle - N.K.), who worked as an interpreter for the British and NATO forces. Whereas my other maternal uncle (S.A.) took responsibility for my younger siblings. Due to high-security threats in Afghanistan N.K. fled the country in 2011 and sought refuge in the UK. He was granted asylum and I was able to join him and his family in the UK as a Refugee in September 2012.
After I moved to the UK, my siblings remained in Afghanistan and were being supported by myself (financially), and S.A. who became their guardian in my absence. S.A. also worked in the Government, USAID, and multiple international organisations in Kabul, Afghanistan. Over the years, prior to the fall of Kabul, he had received constant threats from the Taliban.
Current Events
With the unexpected fall of Kabul, S.A. ran for his life, leaving my younger siblings (who are under the age of 18) on their own. They were too afraid to return home and were left roaming around the city of Kabul, for days and nights on their own, trying to survive. They are at great risk and are facing an imminent threat. For this reason, I had no choice but to travel into Afghanistan to try and get them to some form of safety.
At this moment, I am the sole guardian of my younger siblings, and I fear that the longer we remain in Afghanistan, the more at risk we will be of being targeted by the Taliban. Initially, I thought I would be evacuated along with my siblings, however, we were not able to make it to the airport and the evacuation was terminated earlier than the 31st of August.
Therefore, I am appealing to the Government to consider my circumstances and help me return to the UK with my siblings. Whilst I have a responsibility towards my dependents, I believe the UK also has a responsibility towards protecting vulnerable people put at risk for their cooperation with the British Forces in Afghanistan.
We Need Your Support
I feel that the Government has not seriously considered my circumstances, and the circumstances of many others in a similar position. Our ties to Britain and the British forces put us at great risk and we feel like we have been abandoned. Any communication I have received so far has been inadequate.
Please sign this petition to help put pressure on the Government to respond urgently so that my family and I can get to safety.
