Bereavement Allowance for All

My 45 yr old partner died on 15th October 2017 leaving me alone and bereft. Being his partner for 25yrs and his carer for 14 yrs I thought the government would help me.
You see there is a Bereavement payment of up to £3500 and an additional bereavement allowance for 18 months.
However on looking into applying for this I discovered it was only for married couples or those in civil partnerships. If you just live together then you are not entitled to this allowance even if you have dependent children.
Yet I can claim the funeral payment by being his unmarried partner
How can not being married to someone be any different in this case. I lived with him longer than most couples who marry stay together these days. Also in today's society people do not get married. Children of unmarried couples are not provided for. How is this right. The have lost a parent just like a child from a married couple
The government are unjustly saving billions by making this ruling in April of this year
Please stand by me and the many other devasted partners / children who are losing out due to an unfair ruling
