Why this petition matters

Started by Murtaza Qazafi

Pakistan’s fashion industry releases multiple collections each year just to maximize profit. In this money-making race, designers produce clothes that sell fast but end up being discarded after a few wears and developing a throw away culture in our society. Considering the environmental impacts of the fashion industry, it can be regarded as a unique “ecosystem” in which everyone feels happy to destroy the environment.

Keeping in mind the environmental hazards caused by Fashion Industry in the form of landfill wastes, the amount of annual carbon gas emission, exposure of environment to toxic dyes and chemicals, release of microfibers in the oceans and most importantly considering the poor health and life conditions of thousands of workers involved including women and children, it all needs to be changed. It requires new and evolved creative methods of designing and developing clothes that keep our environment clean, safe and sustainable.

My group members Ibrahim, Araiz, Mujtaba, Momin, Enayah, Maha and I (Murtaza) being responsible citizens of Pakistan and students of Lahore Grammar School, DHA Phase 5, want to draw the attention of the government and the people of Pakistan towards this issue which is causing an existential threat of climate change. If we don’t start to address the negative impacts of the fashion industry soon, we’re not going to have an industry in the future.

Please help us by signing and promoting this petition to urge the fashion industry to stop environmentally unsustainable practices.

Thank you for your support,

Concerned Citizens of Pakistan.
