A second hospital for Plymouth

A second hospital for Plymouth
Why this petition matters
We wish the Government to fund a second hospital with an emergency department, acute care wards and general care wards in Plymouth under the levelling up agenda and the build back better agenda.
Plymouth is currently represented by one hospital which is also a major trauma centre providing care for the whole of the South West.
The increase in recent housing developments in and around the city means the demand for its services is now at an all time high and Plymouth is in desperate need of a second hospital in order to manage its patients in a safe and timely manner.
Currently there are long waits of up to 24 hours for patients attending the Emergency Department. This does not include the wait patients often have outside in the carpark in the back of an ambulance because the hospital is full. The wait in the back of an ambulance can be in excess of 8 hours which is not only uncomfortable for the patient it also means that ambulance is tied up instead of being out on the road attending others that need their help.
A second hospital in the city will help ease the burden on Derriford Hospital and give the people of Plymouth and South West access to more timely emergency care in their hour of need.
