Carmela Ravanne started this petition to Goverment of the Republic of Mauritius and

I arrived in Mauritius on the 5th of March with my toddler for what was meant to be a short eight-day stay during which I had planned to have a medical checkup related to my pregnancy and hoped to also enjoy a couple days of vacation.

Unfortunately, due to a sudden spike in new cases, a second national lockdown was declared and outgoing commercial flights to Rodrigues were halted which left a significant number of residents of Rodrigues, irrespective of their place of birth stranded in Mauritius. Initial news of repatriation efforts began to spread and it came into effect by mid April.

I got my hopes up when it was communicated to me to make the necessary arrangements to be taken to a quarantine center on the 5th of May. My optimism was however, short-lived as I was later informed that the plans to start quarantine on that particular date have been scrapped.

The start of my quarantine period finally started on the 18th of May and the following day my first PCR test came out negative. On the 22nd of May I was taken to Victoria Hospital and the medical staff opted to keep me under observation for 24 hours in isolation due to a medical issue completely unrelated to COVID-19. I was authorized to go back to the quarantine center on the 24th of May and on the 25th my second PCR test also came out negative.

Things, however, took an unexpected turn on the 1st of June when at around noon, the doctor at the quarantine center informed me that my son and I were ineligible for the flight back to Rodrigues due to a breach of the Quarantine Act that supposedly occurred when I was taken to Victoria Hospital on the 22nd of May. Does this mean that under the current protocol in place, there is no way to ensure continuity in the quarantine period for any person taken from the quarantine center to receive treatment at a designated hospital under isolation conditions and fully under the supervision of qualified medical staff or was there an event that is specific to my case that led to that alleged breach? Putting this very important question aside, why was I told that there was a breach more than one week after being taken to the hospital?

As things stand, owing to the fact that despite my pleas, I had to leave the quarantine center, I will have to undergo another quarantine to be eligible to board the flight to finally take me home. At this stage of my pregnancy, there is no guarantee that I will not have to take another trip to the hospital if I ever get another chance to go into quarantine. At this point, I have a lot of unanswered questions and I have run out of doors to knock which makes an already stressful situation even worse. I understand that the current situation requires an abundance of caution but how was this situation so poorly handled after more than a year dealing with this pandemic. Je suis au bout du rouleau and I am simply asking to go back home with my son.
