After the  last election, the Progressive Conservative Party promised to increase the amount of the George Coles bursary for students, but so far nothing has changed. Island students who attend post-secondary schools in P.E.I. such as Holland College, University of Prince Edward Island and College de l'ile are eligible for $2,200 a year, which the PCs promised would be increased to $3,000. District 27 M.L.A. Hal Perry brought up the unfulfilled promise during question period on Friday November 27, but the government has yet to follow through.
