Our country is native to more than 4000 medicinal plants that are known for their long traditional uses in combating different kind of infectious diseases caused by all types of pathogens. Due to several issues like toxicity, resistance and multiple side effects attributable to use of modern medicine. Most countries are now shifting to formulation  of drugs using medicinal plants as they are safe and most of these medicinal plants are readily available, cheap and they do not interfere with food security.

A country with less population like ours  shouldn’t have issues like shortages of vital medicines especially for diabetes, bacteria and fungal infection. Tablets like paracetamols and antibiotics are scarce nowadays just because we rely more on importing these products instead of investing in research so that Namibian scientists who have interest in drug discovery can utilize their capabilities in formulation of drugs derived from natural products.

This request goes to the government to invest in research  by building our own research center. This will strongly impact on our Primary health care, Pharmaceutical industry, Biotechnology industry, and the Economy.
