Why this petition matters

Started by Dani McGrath

I want a change in Management in nursing homes. More spot checks to be done and less agency staff. Someone needs to monitor why there is such a high turn over off staff. Have meetings with their staff monthly and monitor staff behaviour. If you don't show compassion then something needs to be done. As soon as staff start getting lazy they need to go because peoples life's get effected, residents pick up on the high turn over of staff and know the staff who care and who don't care. Homes are losing really good compassionate carers because they see staff who simply do not care. I have reported to cqc. But I have seen bites from bed bugs, no housekeeping being done as families couldn't visit the residents due to covid 19. Neglect by not giving the residents their milkshake for weight gain. two residents have said they don't feel safe around some staff. Paper work gets filled in but most of the residents do not get repositioned to prevent bed sores as some staff do not like the residents behaviour. Some staff would rather sit on their phone so they have removed walking aids from residents. The residents do not have slide sheets meaning they are dragged up the beds under arm. I heard a lot of the term attention seeking from a lot of staff. These residents spend £2000 PW for care. Care needs to be more than food and a pad change every two hours. our Elderly need company, compassion, sometimes a cuddle. The whole structure needs looking at and management need more training on keeping staff and building a successful home with permanent, compassionate staff.  I would like a company built or made on going around nursing homes looking into staff reports, issues and out comes and ask management what help or training they need. This is a 9.8 rated home so I dread to think what happens in other homes. The money spent on recruitment and agency fees could go into paying your real , kind compassionate carers. If you have happy staff it will be a happy home with clients being truly looked after. Dementia patients need, reassurance and consistency. Seeing the same staff would help them feel more comfortable.
