SB 411 and SB 409 both claim to "prohibit race and sex stereotyping" in Wisconsin's public education system. These bills attempt to do this by eliminating any trainings, discussions, or instructions about race and the effects of racism, or sex and the effects of sexism. These bills will affect our K-12 public schools and charter schools, along with the UW system and our technical colleges. These bills are irresponsible in a state that is considered to have one of the worst rates of racial disparities in the country. Wisconsin Considered One Of The Worst States For Racial Disparities | Wisconsin Public Radio (wpr.org)

Along with being irresponsible, these bills are directly in conflict with both state and federal laws that require schools in Wisconsin to teach students about race. The ACLU submitted a letter to all Wisconsin School Districts to remind them of their obligation. You can read it here: ACLU Of Wisconsin To Wisconsin School Districts: You Are Legally Obligated to Teach Students About Race | ACLU of Wisconsin (aclu-wi.org)

As a student at UW-Madison, I oppose these bills and urge you to do the same. If you do, please sign on to this petition before they can pass through the Senate.
