Justice For Javan

Justice For Javan
Why this petition matters

On February 23, 2014 Javan Robinson was tragically killed by a drunk driver who fled from the scene of the crime. Edward Koloski, former EMT of his local town, spent all afternoon and night drinking at a bar. After being told by several people that he was too intoxicated to drive, he did anyway. As he was driving home, he mowed Javan down at such a high speed throwing his body airborne into the windshield causing Javan to be left lifeless laying in the road as he drove away without stopping. Koloski went to his job to try to find tools to repair the extensive damage to his car and consciously tried to cover up what he’d done but when he failed to do so he then called police to say, “He believed he had struck an animal.” Koloski’s blood alcohol level was 0.167%, or double the legal limit. On June 23, 2016 Edward Koloski was sentenced to 8 years in prison for vehicular homicide and aggravated manslaughter and was later released in September of 2020. With the anniversary of Javan’s death approaching later this month and only having had to serve 4+ short years in prison, Edward has filed for executive clemency in the state of New Jersey to be pardoned by Governor Phil Murphy which in turn would allow him to apply to have his criminal record expunged. Since the beginning of this nightmare, Edward has showed no remorse or empathy for what he has done. He is now trying to erase this from his name as if the night of February 23rd never happened but it did happen and his 2 sons (now almost 10 and 8), family and friends have to live with the consequences of Edwards actions every day for the rest of their lives. I have been given the opportunity to write a letter of objection, which I will be doing, but I was also allowed to write letters at the time of his sentencing and for the parole hearing and felt as though my voice was not heard because nothing I said changed the outcome. Javan did not get the justice he deserved so at this time I’m asking for the communities support. Please sign this petition to show Gov Murphy that this is not just one individual’s opinion but that we as a community want justice for Jay, and that he should deny the letter of clemency request to show Edward while we have to suffer everyday with the consequences of his actions he does too.
