Stop the removal of historical monuments and memorials in Florida
This petition had 1,065 supporters
We are calling on the leaders of our Great State of Florida to protect Florida History.
Florida needs a law to protect our historical monuments and memorials. Consider what the Great State of Alabama has done with the Alabama Memorial Preservation Act of 2017. It is a good start to protecting history and respecting those represented by these monuments.
The removal of historical monuments and/or memorials diminishes the history that we, as Floridians and as Americans, share. We must remember and honor our past, even that which we do not personally like. History must not be hidden away in some museum, or warehouse, it must not be revised to "fit with the times". Times change, history does not, it cannot, lest we lose our identity as a nation. It makes us who were are, it makes us stronger as a nation, even the ugly history must stand as a reminder of the tough times our nation has faced and endured.
Please intervene to stop the removal of these historical monuments in Florida. And in those cases where they must be moved due to public pressure by any lobbying group, ensure that no taxpayer dollars are used to remove, relocate, and/or store those monuments.
