Rethink your outrageous make-up day policy.
Much of North Carolina is beginning an outrageous make-up policy for the school days missed during the 2014 winter snowstorms. However, some of these policies will result in students having to get to school 15 minutes early and leaving school 15 minutes late. Many students and their peers believe this is completely unnecessary and needs to be rethought. Many of the days being made up are not even required for the 180 days that school is required to be in session yearly, and it isn't fair to the students, parents, faculty, or staff. I ask you to sign this petition in hopes that North Carolina will rethink their outrageous plan to make the people suffer in getting to and staying at school. There are many alternatives to adding 15 minutes to the start of the day and 15 minutes to the end, and these include:
- Adding school days on Saturdays
- Extending half-days to make up the time
- Changing teacher workdays into school days
- Adding days to the end of the school year
- Taking days from summer vacation
- A combination of the above
I ask you, as a citizen, to stop NC from making people suffer due to the weather.
