Re-open NWI highway depot

Since the provincial government reclassified the highway maintenance depot on New World Island (NWI) as seasonal, there has been a noticeable decline in road conditions in the NWI/Twillingate area.  Pot holes, deteriorated pavement, and washed out shoulders abound.  Driving on roads which are in such poor condition creates hazards for travellers, slows response time for emergency vehicles and impacts tourism which is a large economic driver in the area.
Maintenance of highways between Twillingate and Fredricton (both main and secondary routes) is now the responsibility of the depot in Victoria Cove.  The area is too geographically dispersed for one depot to respond appropriately to the needs for highway maintenance in the area.
The provincial government must reinstate the year-round services at the NWI depot to provide the road maintenance services the area needs.   Please sign this petition showing support for reinstatement of year-round services at the NWI highway maintenance depot. The petition will be presented to Premier Ball, Minister Crocker and MHA Bennett.
