Petition Closed

April 20, 2012 it was announced that Governor Hickenlooper signed a juvenile reform bill into law. This law reforms the Juvenile Transfer Law in the state of Colorado. Finally the decision to transfer a juvenile criminal case from juvenile court to adult court is reviewed and made by judges…..as it always should have been.

Unfortunately this came after so many others were tortured, isolated, sentenced and condemned as kids to adult prisons….with adult sentences. There are thousands of young men and women who went to prison as kids sitting in Colorado prisons. These young men and women deserved the chance at reform, redemption and education so that they could move past their juvenile mistakes. These young men and women were kids too. These young men and women received this brutal treatment as a result of knee jerk reactions to isolated incidents. These young men and women have fallen through the cracks of justice, sensibility and humane treatment.

Now what can we do to change this? What can we do to fully turn back the clock on juvenile justice reform? We have to right the wrongs that we as a society committed against these young men and women. If we aren’t big enough to stand up and make it right…..what kind of example are we setting? How can we expect them to believe that right is right and wrong is WRONG if we won’t take a stand?

Take the next step……undo the harm……believe in second chances. Please sign this petition and begin the process of undoing the harm.
