At the age of 11 Sara was lured into street live by a sex trafficker. When she was 13 he raped her and forced her into sex work. She was essentially enslaved by this man. When she was 16 she was enabled by a different pimp/trafficker to go and murder the pimp. She did this because it was the only way she could escape, the only way she could survive.
There was nobody to help her, no one who knew enough about law to recognize that she was a helpless victim of unscrupulous sex
traffickers. So she became a perpetrator instead of a victim,. What's worse she was then tried as an adult. If she could be found guilty of premeditated murder one, as an adult, she could be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. And tis indeed is what happened.
But Sara never did any crime- she did the only thing she could do to escape the brutal slavery in which she was trapped.
Sara has now been in prison 16years- half of her life. She never deserved one day in jail. While in prison she has become the wonderful person she is now. A shining example of what a human can be.
Sara has earned her freedom many times over. She must be free
either by a pardon or a commutation of her sentence to time served. Sara needs her freedom. And the world needs Sara.
